Clint’s Café Mural / University of Michigan-Flint
Illustration & Mural Design
The Clint’s Café Mural at the University of Michigan-Flint honors the transformative legacy of Dr. Clinton B. Jones, the university’s first African American chancellor, while celebrating its deep connections to the City of Flint. Spanning 13 feet by 50 feet, the mural is designed to inspire and engage, incorporating vivid illustrations and collages to tell a story of resilience, leadership, and progress.
The Black Markers team conducted in-depth research on Dr. Jones’s life and accomplishments, using this as the foundation for the mural’s design and themes. As part of the project, we provided the University of Michigan-Flint with a comprehensive document detailing our findings to further enrich the historical context.
In addition to capturing history, the mural was created to brighten Clint’s Café and make it a more welcoming space for students. The design brings together vibrant visuals and a cohesive layout, transforming the café into a place of inspiration, reflection, and connection for the campus community.
